How to make Greek dumplings . Today I bring you a super traditional dish from Greek cuisine, some youvarlakia avgolemono or meatballs in the Greek style.

Greek cuisine is typically Mediterranean, with techniques and ingredients that it shares with other countries such as Italy or Turkey. So much so that this dish is reflected in Turkish cuisine in much the same way.

In this recipe two preparations are combined, on the one hand youvarlakia, a type of meatball in which meat, beef or lamb, is mixed with rice or bulgur, cooked and served in sauce.

On the other hand we have the avgolemono, which is a typically Greek sauce based on egg and lemon, but it is also a very popular soup in which a chicken broth is thickened with these ingredients, the egg and the lemon.

It is a light and nutritious dish or, when having the meatballs cooked and not fried in oil, and when they come accompanied by a sauce enriched with egg. If you want to try different flavors, in easy and tasty recipes, do not hesitate to prepare this recipe.

How to make Youvarlakia or meatballs

  1. In a bowl we add all the ingredients for the meatballs, the raw rice, the very chopped onion, the minced meat, 3 tablespoons of parsley, two tablespoons of dill, salt and ground black pepper. Mix well with your hands until they are a homogeneous and well-mixed dough.
  2. With our hands we form small balls of about 20 or 25 gr. and we are placing them on a tray until we have them all ready. We coat the balls in flour and reserve.
  3. In a saucepan add about 1 liter of water and put it on the fire. At the time it begins to boil, add the meatballs and cook them for 40 minutes. Remove the meatballs from the water and reserve both the meatballs and the cooking water.
  4. We can prepare the meatballs in advance and start making the sauce the moment we go to taste them.

How to prepare Avgolemono sauce

  1. To prepare the sauce, beat the egg and add the lemon juice. We continue beating while adding 2 or 3 tablespoons of the meatballs cooking broth.
  2. In a saucepan, reheat the sauce with the meatballs that we have reserved. They should not come to a boil, remember that they have raw egg.
  3. We serve youvarlakia avgolemono or very hot Greek meatballs sprinkled with a good pinch of parsley and accompanied by fried or cooked potatoes as a garnish.

It is a simple recipe that will allow us to enjoy different flavors, in a healthy and wholesome way.
