Maybe not everyone likes Christmas dinners , where you have to sit with the family for a couple of hours — at least — to repeat the same conversations (and often the same discussions) from every year…
But it is more difficult to find people who do not like to savor the starters, which usually arrive at the table at the same time as the first drinks and when the stomach is still empty (sometimes in these celebrations trying the dessert becomes an effort titanic).
Canapés are eaten almost in one bite and last much less on the table than it takes to prepare them, so finding delicious and easy-to-assemble recipes is essential so that we don’t have to spend hours and hours cooking… And thus be able to join the party sooner.
We are going to discover how to make five types of very simple and economical canapés, perfect to bring to the table before the rest of the dishes and without taking forever trying. With these ideas I think you will be clear about what Christmas appetizers you are going to prepare this Christmas or special occasion. What do you think? Have I convinced you?
Preparation of easy Christmas canapes
Avocado and mango baskets
- We cut the avocado in half and remove the stone. We peel it and cut it into very small cubes, less than half a centimeter.
- We peel the mango and also remove the stone. We cut it into cubes of the same thickness as the avocado. We wash and chop the tomato into small cubes. We drain the olives and chop them very finely.
- We put all the ingredients in a bowl, chop some parsley leaves and sprinkle them on top.
- We prepare a vinaigrette: in a glass we add a tablespoon of oil and two of vinegar, salt and stir.
- Pour the vinaigrette into the bowl and mix all the ingredients well. We choose a consistent bun or a volovan and cover it with the mixture. We place a small piece of smoked cod or salmon on top.
Beet and cream cheese canapés
- We put cream cheese in a bowl and chop the chives on it, very fine. We stir very well until we have a uniform mixture. We lightly dry the beet and cut it into thin slices, half a centimeter thick.
- We take a slice of toast and place a slice of beet, spread with cream cheese, another slice of beet, cream cheese again and finish with beet.
Foie canapés with red fruits
- We fill the volovanes with a teaspoon of foie, without letting it overflow. We heat the oven to 150º C and turn it off. We put the volovanes in for 5 minutes so that the mousse becomes creamy.
- We take out of the oven. We let it cool slightly and decorate with red berries (raspberry and blueberries). We give the final touch of green with a mint leaf.
Tomato and mozzarella canapes
- We wash the other tomato, cut it in half, lengthwise, and then into thin slices, less than half a centimeter thick. We cut the mozarella into slices that are more or less equally thick. We make strips with half of the piquillo peppers.
- We choose a toasted and consistent bread. We add tomato, mozarella, a small piece of belly, a strip of pepper and decorate with a leaf of arugula.
Goat cheese, pepper and anchovy canapés
- Cut the goat cheese into slices about one centimeter thick. We make strips with the piquillo pepper, diagonally. On a piece of toast we place the goat cheese and the pepper strips.
- We skewer an anchovy with a toothpick and stick it over the rest of the layers.

Tips for a perfect easy Christmas canapes
- In addition to changing the main ingredients of the canapés, it is very interesting to vary the bread base . In our supermarket we will find volovanes, toasted bread of different sizes and shapes and also small bowls made of bread and perfect for these preparations.
- It is easy to overdo the amount of vinaigrette in the first canapé and for the mixture to become a little waterlogged. If this happens, just drain it over a strainer before filling the rolls.
- We can give them all a final touch by sprinkling different types of pepper on each canapé (black, pink…) and with a few drops of balsamic vinegar.
