How to make an orange cake.

I think one of the first sweets I learned how to make is the classic yogurt cupcake .

Surely many of you know this simple and tasty sweet perfectly. Today I bring you the recipe for a variation of that classic, an orange sponge cake , made in the same way as the classic I was talking about.

When I speak of the traditional yogurt cake , I am referring to the one prepared with the measurements of a glass of yogurt .

The one in which we do not need a scale or know the weights. It works in proportional amounts to the volume of 1 glass of yogurt.

I am referring to the traditional sponge cake in which it is not necessary to count grams, that is, to have a scale, but rather to work in proportions according to the volume of a glass of yogurt.

This orange sponge cake follows the same parameters, 1 measure of yogurt, 1 measure of oil and 2 measures of sugar and 3 measures of flour yogurt.

The difference with the traditional sponge cake is that it includes a whole orange among its ingredients, both for its zest and for the orange itself that we add in pieces and end up integrating it completely with the help of a mixer.

The end result is a very fluffy, juicy and moist sponge cake , perfect for breakfasts and snacks.

A classic with a traditional flavor of always elaborated in a simple and uncomplicated way.

Preparation of the cream of the future orange sponge cake

  1. In a bowl add the yogurt, the sugar, the soft olive oil, the eggs and the zest of the orange. With some rods we mix well until integrating.
  2. We peel the orange and remove all the white part possible.
  3. Cut the orange segments into small pieces and add them to the bowl with the rest of the ingredients.
  4. Crush with a hand mixer until the orange pieces are not noticeable, that this is fully integrated.
  5. Add the salt, yeast and flour and mix until you have a homogeneous cream.

Cake baking and final presentation

  1. Pour the mixture into a mold that we will have smeared with butter or oil.
  2. Baking is perhaps the most important thing in a cake, each oven is a world. Especially now that most of them have millions of different functions that we use little or do not know what they are for.
  3. In my mother’s house we have the simplest, warmth up and down of all life. Once you have a good control of your home oven, surely there is no recipe that will resist you.
  4. With the oven previously heated to 180º C, we bake for 40 or 45 minutes.
  5. We check that the cake is ready by pricking it with a stick and checking that it comes out clean.
  6. We let it cool for 15 minutes on a rack and after this time we remove it carefully.
  7. Leave the cake on the rack until it has completely cooled.

We can only enjoy this perfect sweet for breakfasts and snacks, a whole sponge cake.
